Some things to think
about
A large and important
bid can take a lot of resources. We can provide supplemental resources
to help.
-
Competitor Analysis Who
else is going after this work?
-
Contractor Coverage Which
general contractors are serious about this job. Each needs to be
contacted, their needs discovered, and arrangements made to bid them.
-
Estimate Research
A quotation is needed from each important vendor and each vendor with a
specialized product. Be sure the vendors bid "project spec."
Ask for project pricing. An important subset of tasks involves the
design of specialized forming and taking bid(s) on it.
-
Production Strategy Develop a
plan for bed space, special fabrication, special or new forming use,
-
Subcontract Production
Your plant may not make all the products, or have the bed space to make
them. It can take time and care to solicit bids.
-
VE Alternates Any
important bid should have VE alternates. In many cases, they get
you the work.
-
Design Build Team This
is desirable, if your are on the right team. It can also take a lot
of valuable time away from the needs of other customers and other bids.
We can help.
-
Bidding Strategy
This critical step is best done twice, well before the bid and the day
of bid. Be sure that all knowledgeable people are involved either
in person or by conference call.
-
Simultaneous Submittals On
any big open bid, you have to assume there is a real danger of bid leakage.
One method to deal with this is simultaneous personal submittal to several
general contractors. That requires a knowledgeable rep in the office of
each contractor at bid time, and a communication plan.
