Stair & Elevator Towers
(click on image for project information)
-
Stairtowers were a good product line.
They were high margin and we got most of the work we bid.
-
We sold them to papermills. They provided
refuge egress from boilers. They provided ADA acceptable access to
each level of the structure.
-
We provided them from Texas to New Hampshire,
by shipping the pieces common carrier flat bed.
-
Why were they successful as a new product
line:
-
They displaced steel construction and filled
block walls.
-
We perfected the design. But other producers
perceived very large design risks because they had never done one.
-
We provided the best in quality both in product
and service.
-
Unfortunately for us, the paper industry fell
on hard times. But, there is a lesson here for the introduction of
a successful new product line.
-
Successful new product lines are an offshoot
of what you are already doing.
-
Successful new product lines displaced other
building materials, not other precast.
-
Find your new products on your current jobs
and with your partner architects.
-
Give it time. New products take two
years to develop.
